My name is STEVE HILL and I am running for Lewisville City Council, Place 2. The reason that I am running is that there is only one conservative (John Gorena) on the City Council that represents my values. He has had the courage to stand up for many of the issues in which I believe. Usually, he is the single vote against the others. We conservatives will not gain any ground in this struggle without representation. I am asking for your vote, to vote your values, and vote conservative.
Most people in elected office are nice people but voting for someone because you heard their name or heard they were nice does not mean they will vote the way you would. I ask that you vote for the person that would vote the way you would on important issues. I have been attending Lewisville City Council meetings for more than two years and I currently serve on one of the city committees. The decisions being made are a matter of record and many do not coincide with my conservative values. I have voiced my opinions at Council meetings.
There are six members of the Lewisville City Council which includes the Mayor and five Council members. This May the Mayor and one council seat are up for election for a three year term.
I share the same core values as Councilman Gorena, which are, “I am a Christian, Conservative, Patriotic American and Texan (I pledge allegiance the Flag of this Country and the State of Texas), anti-abortion, active in the Republican Party (member of area Republican clubs, precinct chair for my precinct), and also consider myself a TEA Party Republican. I believe in term limits, fiscal responsibility, limited government, personal responsibility, the rule-of-law, national sovereignty, and the lowest taxes possible.”
It is the issues that are important. Here are just a few of the issues that I disagree with my opponent:
If you agree with these few, then there are many more that you and I will agree on. Again, I ask for your support and vote.
- Business Rights: I do not like smoking but I also do not believe that we should create a smoking ban ordinance. Business owners have the right to decide if that is good for business. I choose to not visit those businesses that allow smoking.
- Water Rates: Discussed at recent council meetings to have different rates depending on the amount used. That is, paying more per gallon of water because you use more than your neighbor. I believe the rates should be the same per gallon and you pay for what you use.
- Tax Dollars spent on private homes: I disagree with the spending of tax money ($180,000 in 2011) on rehabilitation of private homes.
